Membership Options

Members of the American Weil Society include philosophers, theologians, literary scholars, and French scholars, as well as numerous people in various other professions such as ministers, priests, and social services people. All interested people are welcome regardless of academic standing.

We operate through a tiered membership structure to acknowledge and address structural inequality in academic life.

The greatest part of our membership fees goes to funding our Junior Weilian Scholar Grants, which help doctoral students working on Simone Weil attend the annual colloquy and present their work, and to subsidize junior international scholars to attend our annual Colloquy.

As a member, you are warmly invited to the annual colloquy as well as any other events over the course of the year. This includes our virtual graduate student workshops on Weil related papers and any other initiatives from the AWS. As a member of the AWS, you are encouraged to contribute your own ideas about initiatives and events in the AWS.

Membership in the American Weil Society is on a calendar year basis and should be renewed before the annual colloquy (generally the end of April each year).  Members may choose at their option to subscribe to the quarterly Cahiers Simone Weil. The Cahiers Simone Weil are published in French, but do carry articles in English on an occasional basis.
